Dept. of Defense & Wildlife Management; A Tale of Two Missions
Our speaker for first program of the New Year will be Robert Schallmann, Navy Ecologist and Conservation Programs Manager. Robert works for the Navy at the Seal Beach National Refuge. He will delve into the challenges of balancing the Navy’s priorities with those of the birds and wildlife at the refuge. He’ll give us the latest update on the endangered least terns and the Ridgeway’s rails (formerly clapper rail). For new and old members this will be a fascinating evening, I’m sure there will be lots of questions. We meet at the Nature Center 7550 E. Spring Street, Long Beach 90815, parking is free; we accept cans and plastic bottle (caps off) for recycling to help support our chapter.
